What to Expect at a Dental Appointment
You Only Have
You have been given only one set of teeth and gums — it is entirely up to you to take care of them! Next to regular brushing and flossing, attending regular dental cleanings and examinations is the best way to take care of your smile. It is advised that you visit the dentist at least once every six months, or more frequently if a dental professional has determined that your personal case calls for it.
Your dental appointment will include a thorough tooth cleaning. This procedure will remove plaque from your teeth in order to prevent cavities, gingivitis, and periodontal diseases. We believe that it is also inherently satisfying to have teeth that feel so clean!
Visual Exams & X-rays
A dental appointment’s value extends beyond the cleaning, however. While you are in our office, we will check for the existence of cavities as well as tartar on your teeth that cannot be removed via conventional brushing and flossing. If tartar is left to its own devices for long enough, it can cause oral diseases. We may also conduct an X-ray to detect problems that the eye alone never could.
Discussion of Health Concerns
We will also check the spaces between your teeth and gums to detect for gum disease, screen for oral cancer so it may be detected as soon as possible, and address any concerns which you may have about your personal oral health. We pride ourselves on being both thorough and informative — we will explain any areas of concern that our examination yields in terms that you can understand and put to use.
